The project is organized by Moscow Ecological Center Zapovedniks and Baikal’sky National Reserve. The Reserve is situated on the South bank of the Baikal Lake in the Buryat Republic near the central part of Khamar-Daban Range. Since 2007 the Reserve’s staff creates an education open-air exposition Green necklece of Baikal. Last year vols have begun this project: the reservoir in the form of lake Baikal is dug out. This 15-meter model-copy should become one of the main exhibits for the tourists and school groups visiting Reserve.
W: To design a relief around the Baikal’s model - mountain ridges, the rivers, valleys and to indicate the biggest cities and lakeside protected natural territories. Landscape design of territory - decorative planting and improvement.
A: in the Visit-center house in the Tanhoi village (10 min from the Baikal Lake), with beds and blankets. Vols will cook by their own forces on a fully equipped kitchen. Toilet and shower are in the building. Banya (Russian sauna) is provided. S: excursions on the territory of Baikal’sky Reserve to the waterfall, the Nature Museum, ethnographical excursion; 3-days study tour up to the Mountains; excursion on the boats to delta of the Selenga river.

RU-ECZ 6.2 Trip to the ancient time

The project is organized by Moscow Ecological Center Zapovedniks and National Reserve Shulgan-Tash. The Reserve is situated in the mountain and forest part of South Ural, in the Bashkortostan Republic. It is well-known by beekeeping and by famous Shulgan-Tash cave. Petroglyphic drawings of Paleolithic period, underground river, lake and ancient legends attract thousands of tourists to this place. The Reserve’s staff is creating now an educational open-air exposition of ancient Paleolithic men’s place ‘Cave of ancestors’. This project will help visitors to have full impression of Paleolithic period and the people, who couple of millions years ago made drawings in the Shulgan-Tash cave.
W: laying out the stone borders of the place; making an ancient man’s hut, erecting a ceremonial idol; equipping fireplace; making a workplace where ancient man made his weapons and instruments; making a model of the mammoth with straw and hay. The volunteers will work 6 hours a day 5 days a week. A: camping in tents inside Reserve near 2 km eco-path, which leads to the main gallery of the cave with ancient drawings. The path contains wooden sculpture, souvenir shop, museum ‘Bee forest’, museum of nature, bee garden, honey bar with different types of honey, several viewpoints…Banya (Russian sauna) 2 times a week, possible to bathe in the river Belaya. Kitchen (volunteer cook by themselves) and toilet outdoors. Electricity available. S: excursions to the Reserve museums, walks to the caves. Possibly – two-day rafting on the river Belaya. Opportunity to work as a guide. Basic beekeeping training; learning of Bashkir myths and legends. Location: near Belaya river. The nearest city Beloretsk is in 250 km, the village Starosubhangulovo in 40 km. There are plenty of shops nearby, no Internet, mobile communication in some places can disappear. L: English.
