Protected Areas Training Center
PA Training Center (TC) conducts trainings for the staff of federal and regional protected areas and organizations that interact with PA.
TC provides training courses since 1996.
In 1997 EcoCentre «Zapovedniks» developed the Conception of work of state nature reserves and national parks of Russian Federation on environmental education, which was then confirmed by the state authorities. In 2000 EcoCentre «Zapovedniks» initiated creation of a new profession in Russia — environmental education specialist on PA. In 2008 Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Recourse Usage approved the training programs of the TC for all categories of PA staff.
In 2005-2008 EcoCentre «Zapovedniks» was implementing GEF/UNDP project «Creation of network of Training Centers for PA specialists of Northern Eurasia as a demonstration of a tested approach». In the framework of this project 4 Training Centers in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan have been developed and trainings have started to be conducted on a regular basis.
By 2009 more than 2500 PA specialists of Russia and CIS have been trained in the TC.
Since 2007 EcoCentre is a member of the Network of European Environmental Training Centers of Excellence — association of acknowledged professional organizations that train PA staff.
Educational activities of EcoCentre «Zapovedniks» have got a high rating on the part of Russian and international environmental organizations, i.e. the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia, World Commission on Protected Areas of IUCN, EUROPARC Federation, and, what is the most important for us, from the training participants.
The distinction of all trainings of EcoCentre «Zapovedniks» is the unique technique of organization of effective educational atmosphere which encourages participants? activity. We combine traditional and interactive forms of lessons, attract the leading PA experts to the teaching process and use the best Russian and world practice. All that enables us to make our trainings efficient and interesting. Each seminar starts with communicative training that motivates the trainees to intensive work and subsequent professional growth.
Special attention at all seminars is given to the process of exchanging experience between the participants. Usually people that take part in a training come from various regions of Russia and CIS, and it is always useful and interesting to learn how their colleagues manage their PA. Each participant gets a chance to organize his own lesson — «Creative workshop».
Each seminar ends up with the development of an individual pilot project by participants for its further implementation at their PA.
